400 Songs, Otakon 2015, and New Stuff!!

Hello followers,

It's been some time since my last actual blog post...2 years to be precise. There's nothing too crazy I want to report this time, but I guess I'll give a quick update on what I've been up to, and then I'll talk about some awesome stuff! Let's break things up into sections to make this easier to read!

What I've been up to:
Remember how I said I'd "try to be away less".....yeah that didn't exactly happen. For the most part, I haven't been dying and my website isn't anywhere near dead. Between May 2013 to August 2014 I took a year off from school and continued working to make some money to cover my finances. I still added content through 2013, but 2014 was a pretty sparse year. I wasn't necessarily too busy, but for a while I just didn't feel like working on lyrics so much. Once I received a new request for a LIGHT BRINGER song, it kind of kicked me into gear and I started working on lyrics again. Albeit that time I was back in school so my update schedule was still pretty slow. At the start of the summer this year, I was doing pretty good until July hit, I got busy, and stopped. (Also because I wanted to make this blog update for the reason that I will be explaining very soon!) So I guess while I have some summer left I'll post more lyrics until school takes over my free time again....

The real reason for this update
So other than the fact that I was due to make an update, the main reason I'm writing this is because the website has hit a new milestone, 400 song lyrics!!!! Yaaayyy.....ok maybe that wasn't that exciting... But hey, you know what, on my last update I was only at 250 lyrics. That means that it's taken a whole two years....to add...150...more. Alright, so that may seem like a small amount compared to how much I have left too add (it's never-ending really...). But now I'm only 100 lyrics away from 500, which will only take...less than two years to reach...so, HA!! Joking aside, posting the 400th lyrics was actually pretty awesome for me, here's why. If you didn't notice, I've started running multiple projects at the same time; mostly so I don't get bored of the same artist and so I can have some variety when adding stuff. But the cool thing was that the last round of lyrics I posted for each artist were some of my favorites songs from each one. F.I.R.'s 「I remember」, FLiP's 「JEREMY」, Rei Yasuda's 「Delight」, ONE OK ROCK's 「Decision」, and Yuka Masaki's 「Change Myself」. Number 400 was a little bit different though. Instead of running through the next round, I decided to add another new artist so that I could hit 400 song lyrics and 45 artists at the same time. So the winner for number 400/45 is Hitomi Shimatani's third single 「papillon」! Maybe not my favorite song from her, but still a good one.

New website things:
Unlike the last section, this one will be pretty short. I haven't made any real changes since the last update. Again, waiting for the big 500 before I really start doing stuff. Mostly I'd just say, pay attention to the Project Status box to see what's happening project-wise. That will always be updating...unless I'm not posting anything...and then it won't be... Actually...I just added something... In the current projects section, I'm now showing the total amount of songs I've completed per album. So now you can see how far along I am with each one, yay!

What's cool about Otakon 2015?:
So for those that don't know, Otakon is an anime convention held in Baltimore, Maryland every year, and as you probably already expect, I went to it. I actually go to it every year though since it's the largest convention in my area, so maybe the fact that I went is not so surprising... But what's cool about Otakon is that they often bring in some pretty awesome musical guests which is my biggest draw to the convention. In 2013, they had T.M.Revolution, Home Made Kazoku, and Yoko Kanno, as well as Yoshiki and ALTIMA in 2014. I often can't resist going when big names such as those are in town. So who they did they bring in this year? Although it took a while for me to decide to attend, every time they announced a new guest the J-music nerd's hype for this convention grew more and more inside me. (Sounds weird, I know...go with it.) The first guest they announced was none other than Draft King! (And now everyone says, "who?!") Draft King is a new band formed a few years ago by NOHANA (bass) and SHIHO (drums) of the band STEREOPONY, which I was a die hard fan of up until they broke up in 2012. So having the somewhat reincarnation of one of my favorite bands coming to my local convention....it got me preeeeetty excited, haha. Following that Otakon announced ORESKABAND, a 6-member all-girl ska band that I had never listened to before, and finally BACK-ON!!!!!!! The announcement of BACK-ON was pretty much the icing on the cake, because not only were they coming to my convention, they were also performing for free!! To clarify, they performed during Otakon Matsuri, a free-to-the-public convention event set up before the convention starts that doesn't require any registration (it is public after all). And even though I wasn't particularly excited for ORESKABAND, I decided I would check them out anyway, because free concert too (with purchase of registration of course). One other thing that contributed to my convention experience was the opportunity to meet up with members of Very Good Days (VGD); a fan site once dedicated exclusively to STEREOPONY, but now dedicated to all kinds of girl bands including both Draft King and ORESKABAND. (I'm also a member too!) The majority of the North American members all traveled from across the continent to support the girls of Draft King. Getting the chance to meet them and joining them in all sorts of events really made this Otakon the best I've had so far. So thanks guys!!!!

To keep this section from getting too much longer I think I'll just sum up what I did at Otakon with a  day-by-day list and offer a few comments. So yeah, here's how Otakon went down:

Thursday:
・Arrived in Baltimore and stood in pre-registration pickup line for 3.5 hours (longest wait yet!)
・Made it to Otakon Matsuri for BACK-ON concert, but missed most of it due to being in line.
-Songs I heard: Butterfly, STRIKE BACK, Nibun no Ichi, NEW WORLD, Departure

Friday:
・Arrived early to find almost no pre-reg line (poop, didn't have to miss BACK-ON after all)
・Went to a Japanese underground music panel (listened to metal, it was neat)
・Stopped by the dealers room and bought Draft King merchandise (CDs, towel, and t-shirt)
・Got in line for the Draft King concert, and met up with VGD members for the first time
・Commence concert! (Sat with VGD members in the center front rows, lots of towel twirling)
-Songs performed: READY STEADY GO (cover), 1/3 no Junjou an Kanjou (cover), Electric, Chikai no Uta, Zankoku na Tenshi no Teze (cover), Crossing Field (cover), Okuru Kotoba (original cover), Hey My Love, Mayonaka no Merry-go-round, This is me., Abra Kadabra, Hitohira no Hanabira (cover)
・After-concert dinner with VGD

Saturday:
・First stop, Draft King Q & A panel!! We got to see a bonus acoustic performance by Draft King! There was also a quiz at the end where we could win signed posters. Guess what?! I won the last one!! I'll share a photo below once it's framed.
-Songs performed: Chikai no Uta, This is me., Abracadabra
・Next stop, Draft King autograph session! I had all of my Draft King CDs signed, and my t-shirt as well. I was also wearing Godzilla shirt that day, and NOHANA commented on it, awesome!!
・Third stop, VGD fan meetup event with Draft King. VGD helped organize this awesome exclusive event where fans could meet and mingle with the band members of Draft King. We weren't really getting close and personal or anything, but we got to hang out with the band as a group, play games, and have a good time.
-Played janken (Japanese -style rock, paper, scissors) 3 out of 4 of the band members. I beat SHIHO, and erica, but MAO kicked my butt. I will get her back for that one day! Haha!
-Played charades in groups; first with the fans guessing what each member was acting as, then with each band member guessing (in English!) what the fans were acting as. It was awesome and hilarious!
-VGD also presented Draft King with a bunch of gifts, including a custom banner signed by fans, and we took a group photo.
・Joined up some other friends to hang out and check out a few panels.
・Went to the 18+ Voice Actors After Dark panel which was pretty hilarious.
・Overall, a pretty awesome day!

Sunday
・Stopped by the dealer's room to get my photo taken with Draft King.
・Went to the ORESKABAND concert with a few VGD members. I originally went to kill time, but it was actually really fun.
-Songs performed: Brand New Day, TSUMASAKI, 24 Carat, Jitensha, Getting Higher, Carry On!, Anime Medley, Pinoccio, Almond, Camereon, Katte na Riron,Tequila, Chuck, Cutie Honey, PAPAYA, What a Wonderful World
・Got in merchandise line after concert, bought ORESKABAND's album and got it signed.
・Finished up with the convention and hung out with VGD members for the rest of the day until we had to say our goodbyes.

250 Songs!!

Hello everyone. So it seems I've been dead for a while, and yes that's pretty much true.

Alright, so I wasn't exactly dead, but I've been in a drought period for a while because I've been pretty busy with classes as usual. I did manage to have a productive spurt between February and March, but once April hit my classwork became more difficult and I had to spend more time working on projects. A good thing to note though is that with my sacrifice of new lyric additions, I was able to achieve a 4.0 GPA this semester!! Yeaahh, I feel so pro now!!! Hopefully now that it's summer I will be able spend some more time adding lyrics again!

Now let's move on to some website news. First of all, I've now achieved a whopping 250 songs!! Hey, so maybe that's not so much, but it sets me halfway to 500 and a quarter of the way to 1,000. It is indeed a milestone at my speed anyway, heh. The 250th song happens to be my favorite song from STEREOPONY, "I do it," yay! I swear it wasn't completely intentional. Also, remember in my last post some time ago when I mentioned something new changes to the site? I'm thinking I'll start implementing those changes around the 500th song or so, because by then the lyric lists will be pretty long.

Next up I have some more secret changes to announce; as in things I didn't mention before but threw in anyway because I thought you wouldn't notice! If you check out the panels on the right side, you might see a new box titled "Project Status." Yep, now you can see what I'm working on...sort of. A while ago I was just adding random songs and occasionally an album here and there when I felt like it, but recently I've decided to start adding full albums and singles at one time. That's usually because when I receive a new album it sits on my desk for a while before I put it away, and when it's there I might as well get those lyrics added. Also, whenever I have a new album, I'm sure people would want those lyrics to be added as soon as possible anyway. I'll still add random songs every now and then, but I'll mainly focus on the albums.

Alright, back to the box. I decided to go with four listings for my project statuses. First will be my most recently completed albums/singles. Next will be any current projects that I'm working on. Then, a list of the future projects I intend to work on after the current projects are completed. And finally, the last section, although less related to project status will list my newest additions to the My Collection page. Except for the newest additions section, the other sections will probably only list about one or two albums at a time. Hopefully this new panel will give any viewers an idea of what I'm working on and what to expect next from me. Requests are of course still welcome and I will list them in the Project Status box as well.

One final change is a little restructure I made to the My Collection page. I basically just swapped positions between the track listings and the album photos. Track lists are now on the left and photos are on the right. I had to change this because STEREOPONY's BEST of STEREOPONY album has 19 tracks and I had a difficult time getting the track list to sit correctly in the old format. A simple switch was all I needed, and it fits fine now. So far, this change was only implemented on the Japanese albums sections. The other sections remain unchanged, but may be changed as well in the future.

Before I wrap up, here's a list of the new additions to the My Collection page added since the last update. (Even though I have the "Project Status" box now, I'll still make a list here because it'll be more permanent.):

m.o.v.e - Best moves. ~and move goes on~ (3CD Edition) (album)
ONE OK ROCK - Jinsei Kakete Boku wa (album)
STEREOPONY - BEST of STEREOPONY (album)
STEREOPONY - Hitohira no Hanabira (single)

Sorry for that post being super long this time. I'll try to be away less so that I will have fewer things to talk about next time. Thanks for reading, and please bear with me as I try to get things rolling again. じゃ またね!

Another milestone, 200 songs!!

So yeah, I suppose it's time for another update!

As anyone keep up with my site would notice, I haven't been putting up lyrics too frequently. I mentioned in the previous update that I'd be taking classes, and this is exactly the case. I'm still trying to get more lyrics up as I can, but I just rarely have the time. For now though this is how it will have to be. I should be able to have a faster pace once my classes end in December.

Another thing to mention is that I've finally made it to 200 SONGS!!! Maybe it's not that much compared to other lyric sites, but I'm just glad to get that far in less than a year. I had a big a push this summer thanks to the new printer/scanner's OCR program and a ton of free time. Hopefully I'll get to 300 songs even sooner. I have a ton of CDs sitting around my desk waiting to be added to the site, and I'm just sad there isn't enough time right now to get them all done.

I have some new ideas on how to change some elements of the site. I don't plan to make any changes yet, but once I have a ton of new songs added I'll start working on it. For the most part I am just planning on changing the Lyrics Index into some sort of artists index. If I leave it the way it is the page will get pretty long especially once I've added a few hundred more songs. Stay tuned for more info on those changes, but it may be a while still before I implement anything.

Something I added recently is the Languages box on the side. It includes the number of songs in the languages listed that are available on the site. Their listing is based on the original song, and not on any translations. This serves more as just a counting device, and shouldn't really be used for browsing (however, that is also an option too).

Before I wrap things up, here's a list of what's new in the My Collection page:

A-Lin - Love, How Should I Go? (mini-album/EP)
A-Lin - Lovelorn, Not Guilty (album)
EVANPONY - Just rock with me (single)
Jolin Tsai - MUSE (album)
Namie Amuro - PAST < FUTURE (album)
SPYAIR - Just Do It (album)
Younha - Supersonic (album)

Also to note from my last update; I since have purchased FLiP's Michi evolution album. Nothing has changed in the My Collection page since it was already there, but now lyrics can be expected for the album at some point.

Thanks for reading, and hopefully I can keep bringing you lyrics as I work through my classes!

What's New and Otakon 2012

Wow, so it's been a while since my last update. Hopefully anyone actually following the site has noticed that the lyrics are still coming (and at a faster pace I might add). At home, we recently bought a new all-in-one printer (you know, print, copy, scan, and fax and stuff), and I found out upon installing the software that it actually comes with an OCR program (OCR can take text from images and make it into text that you can edit on the computer). This works great for me because it makes my process much faster. Instead of completely typing the lyrics with foreign characters word for word, I can now just scan them and have them ready for me to edit right away. Now of course it never scans perfectly, but it saves me so much time when all I have to do is fix the mistakes; of which most are pretty generic. I've tested it with Japanese and Chinese lyrics so far, and it's working well, as now I can sometimes get two or three song lyrics up in one day. I haven't tried any Korean songs yet (not that I have much source material anyway), but based on how the program works, I'm thinking I may have to do a bit more work for that though.

I will be starting classes again within the next month, so unfortunately I don't think I'll have as much time to update during the semester. I'll do what I can, but hopefully I can get a good amount of stuff added with the time I have.

Otakon 2012:
For those who don't know, Otakon is an anime convention, but more specifically, an Asian culture convention that runs every year in Baltimore, MD. I've been going for a few years, but I think I enjoyed going this year the most out of the other times I'd been. I'm not as big into anime as I used to be, but my main focus now is Japanese music, so I tend to go to conventions mostly for their musical guests.

Otakon's musical guests this year were new Japanese vocalist, Mikako Joho; a new-ish K-Pop boy band called VIXX; and the very popular seiyuu/singer, Aya Hirano. Two concerts were held at Otakon (first, Mikako Joho and VIXX; second, Aya Hirano), and I attended and enjoyed both of them. I was interested in seeing all of them, but they couldn't hold a torch to the guest I wanted to see most. That is Miss Yuuka Nanri, solo artist and vocalist for Yuki Kajiura's FictionJunciton YUUKA. Unfortunately she did not do any singing (that would've been awesome!), but I was able to go to be Q & A panel (of course I asked her a question), and her autograph session. When I find out she was coming to Otakon, and I quickly ordered her recent solo album to get signed. I brought that and my FicitonJunction YUUKA album, and was able to get both of them autographed! Just getting to meet her made going to convention worthwhile for me. She's very sweet, seriously cares about her fans, and is someone I have always respected and admired. Unfortunately we weren't allowed to take photos, so all I can present is a photo of my signed CDs:

Here's what's new in the My Collection page:

FLiP - XX Emotion (album)
Jane Zhang - Listen to Jane Z Live (album)
Kylee - Mirai (single)
mini - Electro Hardcore Banban Picasso (album)
miss A - A CLASS (album)
STEREOPONY - stand by me (single)
supercell - Today Is A Beautiful Day (album)
Yuuka Nanri - Rondo... Tsuki no Kioku wo Tadotte. (album)

There is one album that I have not listed, and that is FLiP's Michi evolution album. The the reason is that I had ordered the album online, but then my order was cancelled because it went out of print. By that time though I had already added it to the My Collection page. I still intend to buy the album so I will leave it there, but I will not be able to add lyrics until I receive a copy.

Anyway, I think that should be all for now, I've made your eyes hurt long enough. Stay tuned for more lyrics. They'll be coming for at least another month, and hopefully I'll still be able to work on them while I'm in school. またね、皆!

100 Lyrics and A Rocket Car!!

Guess what!! It's time for another blog update!! I will say, things have been flying pretty smoothly with this website since I finished the major updates. Still working on small things here and there, but you'll hardly notice. For the most part I've been trying to keep up with posting lyrics frequently, though I've been getting busier as of late. I will still keep updating, just sometimes it may be a few days before the next post. I'm also getting an itch for translating something, so be on the lookout for some English lyrics (maybe only one or two songs for now).

So what's this rocket car business about? It's nothing much actually. I got the thought from the video of my hundredth song. (Did I mention I'm now up to 100 lyrics?!) The lucky winner happens to be girl next door's debut song, "Guuzen no Kakuritsu" (偶然の確率). It's strange because I've been following this band since their second single but had hardly heard Guuzen no Kakuritsu or even seen the video until recently. But anyway, the whole thing comes down to when I was watching the video and the first thing I saw when the song starts was a GND rocket car blasting across some salt flats. (Be sure to check the lyrics to see the video.)

So yeah, here it is, the rocket car (and Chisa):

Other than the basic news, I haven't made very many changes to the site. The only thing I've added is my Twitter feed box on the right. I don't think it's particularly necessary for the site, but it can at least be used to give any visitors a small look (a very small look) into my personality. Feel free to follow me if you wish, though I'm not really a frequent poster. Mostly you will just see me posting lyric updates and sending comments to my friends.

Before I forget, I've also updated the My Collection page which some new CDs I've acquired.

BENI - Fortune (album)
girl next door - Single Collection (album)
Meisa Kuroki - UNLOCKED (album)
miwa - guitarium (album)
SCANDAL - SCANDAL SHOW (album)
STEREOPONY - Namida no Mukou (single)

That should be all for now. As usual, please post any comments or questions, and I'll catch you on the next update. 大家, 再見!

Two months and 75 songs later, we're ready for launch!

So wow, I've been working on this site for almost two months, and I think I'm pretty much set on how I want things to look. First thing to note is that I have decided to change the blog name from Spiegelscythe Lyrics to Kagami Lyrics. Spiegelscythe is my username for Blogger, and I initially went with it because it was something I could use quickly when I created the site. It's also a name I've been using for years for various other things, and it serves as a kind of identity for myself. And although it has meaning for me and other people that know it, in a public sense it probably doesn't mean anything to everyone else. So I went with something that is less personal but still gives me a sense of identity with my site. The word 'kagami' (鏡) is the Japanese word for 'mirror,' and it shares the same meaning as the 'spiegel' part of 'spiegelscythe,' which in German, also means 'mirror.' Having a combination German/English word as the title for a blog hosting Asian pop lyrics just didn't seem quite right, and I think 'kagami' will work much better. As for the 'Kashi no Basho" part, it might not be necessary, but it seems to be helping my site get hits from Japan (especially people searching for '歌詞'). So it will stay!

Second note! Since I started this blog I've been adding lyrics fairly consistently, and I've now made it up to 75 songs! This is including the ones I added that were already done the site was created, as well as the ones I've added since. Right now I'm getting a new song lyric posted every other day or so. I think this will be my pace for a now, I want to keep updating the site while still allowing time to get other things done.

After all of this time and effort that I put into building this site, I'm glad to say that it's finally done! There's not much more I want to add except for more content for the time being. So no more big changes for now, and anything else I want to do, I'll make an announcement about it. I'm also deciding to drop adding images for the artists in the Lyrics Index. It's still up for consideration, but I just don't feel like working on it now, or feel that it's necessary right now. My major goals for the site are still the same, and I'll of course still be working to get those done. The biggest step was just getting the site completed.

Alright, I think I've bored you long enough now. Feel free to post any questions or comments you have about the site, and I hope you can find those lyrics you're looking for. じゃまた次のアップデート。

What I've Completed:
・Fix the 'About Me' box on the right side (I just removed it altogether, much better now I think.)
・Finish the 'About This Site' page/tab (This is finally done, more or less the last big thing I had to do)

New Things to Add to My Collection:
・BENI - Fortune (album)
・Meisa Kuroki - Unlocked (album)

Goals:
・Become a CDJapan affiliate
・affiliate with other sites (blogs, forums, etc.)

I have a background image!!

So I figure it's about time for another blog update, I've been getting a lot done recently. First thing to note is...the background image!!! Yaahh, now his page isn't so boring!! Sorry that it's so blue, but I actually liked the image I had before and just wanted to add some personal touches. I kept the original image (blurry, blue light beam things) as the background but laid pictures of various artists on top. I had the option of keeping the original image colors but I kind of liked going with the blueish theme and modified them that way, especially since I'd already changed my links to shades of blue to match the previous background. Also I didn't want the background to be too overwhelming and distracting, and I think having the colors toned to match the site's layout colors (black, blue, white, gray, and a touch of red) help it blend in much better.

Originally I also wanted to add an image where the blog title is (I'd have to make it myself our course), but I figured I should do the background first. So as it turned out, I can't really put an image in the title now because it would block the background...(didn't think about that happening...whoops). It would have been perfectly fine if you could just add a shadow to the title...but noooo, Blogger can't do that. So I just went with adding a halfway-transparent black rectangle so that the title would have a dark area behind it, but the background image could still be seen. (Yes, I know there are many ways around this. I thought about it, and decided not to deal with it.)

As of this post, I now have 60 lyrics added to the site...yaaaaaayy!!! I've been working pretty hard on this site, trying to add a few songs a week while also continuing to update everything.

In other news, the My Collection page is almost done. Just need to add the rest of my Chinese discography. The page didn't come out quite as I wanted, but I had to make due with what I had. Hopefully it isn't too difficult to navigate. If can ever find all of the CD booklet scans I have in my computer, I've probably be adding those to the page in a similar way too.

One last thing...I'm still considering changing my blog's title. I just went with the current because it was easy to think of. I'm actually pretty indecisive about choosing names, so if anyone has any suggestions, please share!

That'll be all for now, catch you all later!!

What I've Completed:
・Continue updating Lyrics Index
・Complete most of the My Collection page (all of my Japanese stuff is listed)
-Added images for each album or single
-added the track list of each item with links to the lyrics for each song available
-added product links for each item.
About This Site page was created
・Flashier layout
  -background image
  -title image and blog description
Requests page (this wasn't planned, it just happend....)

What's Coming Up:
・Fix the 'About Me' box on the right side (info is in the wrong place)
・Finish the 'About This Site' page/tab (basically add the description, still haven't done it...)
・Update the Lyrics page with custom images of the artists (optional, still thinking about it)

Goals:
・Become a CDJapan affiliate
・affiliate with other sites (blogs, forums, etc.)

Welcome to Spiegelscythe Lyrics "Kashi no Basho" (name pending) blog site

Alright, so this will be my first blog update post!! I've been working on this page for a few days now, mostly just adding in any of the lyrics I have already typed up, and fiddling with how I want this site to be arranged. It's still a work in progress, but bear with me and I will keep working to make sure it's an awesome place to find and enjoy songs lyrics by some best artists of Asia (well, mostly just my favorites)!!

What I've Completed:
・Add all previously (completed) typed lyrics
・Create an index for all lyrics added to the site
・Create a page to list my collection of Asian music

What's Coming Up:
・Work on a flashier layout, the default is a bit too plain
  -background image
  -title image and blog description
-fix the 'About Me' box on the right side (info is in the wrong place)
・Create an 'About Me' page/tab with links to blog updates.
